Gender equality implies an equity approach to ensure women’s equal rights. Achieving gender equality is a major obstacle in India’s democratic development. The following social constraints hinder in bringing about Gender equality in Indian society.

- Economic dependency on men especially in rural areas.
- Dowry demands have forced women into a commodity like feature.
- Apart from the above basic societal attitude towards women is a major hindrance.
