The venue of the concert and Sheela's home were in opposite directions from Roshan's office. He got late because of some work at office and realised that if he goes to pick Sheela from her home, which was a 48-minute drive from his office, they would be late for the show by 16 minutes. He asked her to start from her home towards his office in an auto-rickshaw and himself started driving towards her home. Both of them started simultaneously, he picked her as soon as they met and they managed to reach the venue just in time for the concert. If Roshan drives at an average speed of 60 km/hr, find the speed (in km/hr) of the auto-rickshaw. (a) 12 Kmph (b) 15 Kmph (c) Cannot be found due to insufficient data (d) 18 Kmph  4. The sum of four consecutive odd numbers is equal to the sum of 3 consecutive even numbers. Given that the middle term of the even numbers is greater than 101 and lesser than 200, how many such sequences can be formed? (a) 21 (b) 12 (c) 15 (d) 23 5. A terrible disease sweeps around the world, luckily only affecting 1 in 10,000, but for that one, the disease is lethal. Shortly after the disease was discovered, scientists developed a test that is 99% accurate regardless of whether you have the disease. In other words, the test yields the correct positive or correct negative result 99% of the time. You take the test and a week later, you receive the lab report. The outcome of the test is positive. What is the probability you have the disease? (a) 99 / 1,000,000     (b) 1/ 102  (c) 1/ 100  (d) 10,099/1,000,000 ANSWERS 1. (a) - Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary is in Solapur Maharashtra. https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/energy-and-environment/pokhrans-firefly-bird-diverters-shine-to-save-the-great-indian-bustard/article33396148.ece 2. (a)  - Article 129 and 215 of the Indian Constitution provides that the Supreme Court of India and High Courts respectively shall be a court of record and shall have all the powers of such a court including the power to punish for contempt of itself. https://indianexpress.com/article/explained/explained-contempt-of-court-attorney-general-7049560/  3. (a) So, we know that Roshan would be 16 minutes late if Sheela doesn't leave the house. Therefore, by her leaving they save 16 minutes. the rate that he is going is 60 km/hr so 16 minutes means that by her leaving it reduces the distance Rohan has to travel by 16 km. Since the venue and Sheela house is in opposite direction if she goes 8km towards the office this saves 16 km since Roshan would have had to go 8km there and 8 km back to get the same distance. So we know that the auto rickshaw goes 8km while, Roshan goes 40 km as 8 + 40 = 48km which is the total distance away from the office and hotel since 48 minutes * 60 km/hr is 48km. We know that the rickshaw speed is therefore 1/5 of Roshan speed which is 60/5 = 12 km/hr. 4. (b) - The first set is 3+5+7+9=6+8+10 The second set is 9+11+13+15 = 14+16+18 Third set is 15+17+19+21 = 22+24+26 3, 5, 7, 9 and 6, 8, 10, both summing to 24; and 9, 11, 13, 15 and 14, 16, 18, both summing to 48 middle term of even sequence is a multiple of 8 least multiple of 8>101=104 greatest multiple of 8<200=192 let x=number of such sequences 104+8(x-1)=192 8x=96 x=12 5. (a) - Take a million people, and say they all get tested. 1,000,000 people 100 have the disease 999,900 do not of these: 99 test positive for the disease *and* have the disease 1 tests negative for the disease *and* has the disease 9999 test positive for the disease *and* do not have the disease 989901 test negative for the disease *and* do not have the disease So for every million people, 10,098 will test positive. Only 99 will have the disease. If you test positive, you're one of these 10,098 people, and there is a 99/10,098 = 1/102 chance you actually have it.
