The Union Government approved the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) proposal to conduct field trials for polymer (plastic) banknotes in ₹10 and ₹20 denominations.

»     India’s quest for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is a effort to reform global governance architecture to better reflect contemporary geopolitical and economic realities. While India seeks non-permanent stints to build coalitions and influence agendas, permanent membership remains the ultimate goal to secure a durable, veto-backed voice in global decision-making regarding international peace, sanctions, and military authorizations.

History of the UNSC:

»     Establishment (1945): Formed post-WWII under the UN Charter, reserving permanent seats (P5) and veto powers exclusively for the five war victors: USA, UK, France, Russia (formerly USSR), and China.

»     Single Historical Expansion (1965): The UNSC expanded its non-permanent member strength from six to ten, bringing total Council membership to 15, but left P5 permanence and veto power untouched.

»     Emergence of the G4 (2005): India, Brazil, Germany, and Japan formed the G4 grouping to mutually support each other’s bids for permanent UNSC seats alongside representation for Africa.

»     Frequent Veto Paralysis: Decades of P5 geopolitical rivalry have frequently paralyzed the Council during major crises, highlighting an ongoing legitimacy crisis.

Key Challenges Associated with India’s Bid:

»     Strict Charter Amendment Rules: Amending Article 108 of the UN Charter requires a two-thirds vote in the General Assembly plus unanimous ratification by all P5 members, giving each P5 country an absolute veto over reform.

»     Chinese Veto Opposition: China, as the sole P5 member from Asia, consistently blocks India’s bid to prevent a regional peer from entering the permanent ranks.

»     Opposition from the Coffee Club: The Uniting for Consensus group—led by Italy and including regional rivals like Pakistan—actively opposes creating any new permanent seats.

»     P5 Reluctance to Share Veto Power: Existing permanent members remain hesitant to dilute their exclusive privileges or extend veto powers to new entrants.

»     Regional Disagreements over Candidates: Lack of consensus within broader regional groups over which nations should represent Asia, Africa, and Latin America creates diplomatic friction.

Conclusion:

India meets virtually every strategic and moral benchmark required for permanent UN Security Council membership, yet remains excluded due to procedural constraints and P5 self-interest. A Security Council that excludes nearly one-fifth of humanity cannot claim long-term global legitimacy. Ultimately, reforming the UNSC is necessary to ensure multilateralism remains representative and capable of managing contemporary threats to global peace.

»     Acute Symptoms: Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), dark urine, fatigue, fever, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Chhattisgarh has launched the DWEEPTI Yojana (Decentralised Women Empowerment on Energy and Policy for Transformative Inclusion), making it the first Indian state to adopt a women-led distributed renewable energy policy.

»     DWEEPTI Yojana (Decentralised Women Empowerment on Energy and Policy for Transformative Inclusion) is an initiative of the Chhattisgarh Panchayat and Rural Development Department, developed in collaboration with Transform Rural India (TRI) under the Green Economy Transition Mission.

»     It integrates women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) into the distributed solar energy ecosystem by enabling them to install, manage, and promote rooftop solar systems.

Aim: To promote women-led clean energy entrepreneurship, expand decentralized renewable energy adoption, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities while supporting rural energy self-reliance.

»     Automated Threshold Triggers: Complaints lodged via the 1930 helpline or NCRP portal that cross specified financial loss thresholds automatically generate an e-Zero FIR without requiring an initial physical station visit.

»     Seamless Jurisdictional Transfer: Registered e-Zero FIRs at central e-Crime Police Stations are instantly routed to the exact territorial cybercrime police station holding local jurisdiction.

»     3-Day Conversion Window: Complainants are required to visit the local territorial police station within 3 days to complete formal verification and convert the e-Zero FIR into a regular, fully registered FIR.

»     Immediate Financial Lien Placement: By generating an official e-FIR instantly, law enforcement and banking channels gain the immediate legal authority required to place a lien on suspect bank accounts and block the onward transfer of stolen funds.

»     The e-Zero FIR system removes jurisdictional delays, allowing cyber fraud complaints to be registered immediately from any location.

»     Instant FIR registration through the 1930 helpline enables faster freezing of fraudulent accounts, increasing the chances of recovering stolen funds.

Waters of Odisha and Chhattisgarh

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) commenced drilling its first deepwater exploratory well (MN-DW18-1-H-D) in the offshore Mahanadi basin under the Union Government’s Samudra Manthan mission (National Deep Water Exploration Mission).

»     Origin: Rises in the Sihawa hill range in the Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh.

»     Flow Direction: Flows northward draining the eastern Chhattisgarh plain, turns eastward into Odisha, pierces the Eastern Ghats through a forested gorge, and empties into the Bay of Bengal at False Point near Paradip.
