An ice giant is a giant planet composed mainly of elements heavier than hydrogen and helium, such as oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur. 2. (d) Japan Oil Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) succeeded in extracting natural gas from sea-bed deposits of methane hydrate popularly called “fire ice" because it is a white crystalline solid that burns. India has some of the biggest methane hydrate reserves in the world. It will reap a bonanza if technological progress allows gas to be extracted from hydrates economically and safely. Hydrates influence ocean carbon cycling, global climate change, and coastal sediment stability. Localized meltdowns have caused massive continental slope failure, which can present a geological hazard for shelf oil and gas production. Massive hydrate dissolution events, releasing vast amounts of the greenhouse gas methane, are possible causes of some of the abrupt climate changes seen in the geologic record. 3. (c) 76° passes through 9 states – Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala. 4. (a) Polymetallic Sulphides contain three or more metals/elements. Polymetallic sulphides have been consistent source of metals like iron, copper, zinc and lead. Apart from these they are also seen as economically viable resources of silver and gold. It may occur in magmatic, volcanogenic, or hydrothermal environments. Most sites have been located in mid-ocean at the East Pacific Rise, the Southeast Pacific Rise and the Northeast Pacific Rise. Several deposits are also known at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge but only one has so far been located at the ridge system of the Indian Ocean. https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/tamil-nadu/2021/oct/31/a-deep-dive-to-assess-indias-subsea-wealth-2377887.html https://www.financialexpress.com/lifestyle/science/indias-deep-ocean-mission-putting-money-in-the-trenches/2190061/ 5.(d) The Aravali Range is a range of mountains in western India running approximately 692 km (430 mi) in a northeastern direction across the Indian states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Haryana, ending in Delhi. The Aravalli range are the oldest Plateau mountains in India. The northern end of the range continues as isolated hills and rocky ridges into Haryana state, ending in Delhi. The famous Delhi Ridge is the last leg of the Aravalli Range, which traverses through South Delhi and terminates into Central Delhi where Raisina hill is its last extension. It is one of the worlds' oldest mountain ranges.
