It is evident that global warming and the resultant climate change affects the global ecosystems negatively. Analyse the impact of climate change on marine ecosystems. Suggest your probable solutions to reverse it.
The global warming and the resultant climate change negatively affects the ocean ecosystems in myriad ways.
Impact of Climate Change on Oceans:
- Increases the temperature of oceans which affects marine species and ecosystems.
- Increased deposition of Carbon dioxide in oceans results in the production of more carbonic acid (Ocean Acidification), (which will have a negative impact on oceanic calcifying organisms).
- The melting polar ice caps due to global warming results in increased sea level (which threatens the coastal ecosystem and living communities)
- Increased ocean temperature may affect the ocean current patterns (which results in unpredictable weather patterns and disrupting marine food webs)
- Increase in ocean temperature may increase the evaporation and atmospheric moisture, which could eventually lead to extreme weather patterns.
- Coral bleaching might happen in huge quantities due to the increased ocean temperature (which might threaten the marine living organisms).
- All possible steps should be implemented to arrest the rise of greenhouse gas emissions.
- The coastal and marine areas should be protected and restored in all possible ways.
- Human adaptations should be improved inorder to successfully face any eventualities.
- The Governments should invest a lot in the ocean related scientific research (so that the precise data related to ocean changes can be acquired)
- The reliable data will enable the governments to come up with appropriate mitigation and adaptation strategies.
- Given the numerous benefits which oceans offers to mankind, it is just for the human community to given utmost priority to protect the ocean due to climate change.
