India aspires for the political, economic and socio-cultural progress of Afghanistan. The peace and prosperity in Afghanistan is of utmost importance for India as India’s interests are intricately linked with it.
India desperately needs to connect with Central Asian countries like Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and so on. It also has plans to extend its connections with Russia in a significant manner. The well-controlled Pakistan is also a long dream for India. In order to fulfill these key interests, India ventured into many things.
The most notable being Zaranj-Delaram Highway, Salma dam, low-interest loans, Afghan parliament and the like.
However the recent negative developments in Afghanistan like the re-emergence of Talibans and pull out of American troops doesn’t augur well for India.
The ensuing Taliban dominated Afghanistan’s politics will embolden Pakistan's dream of bleeding India white.
India tried as much as it could for the continuation of peace in Afghanistan. India always aspires for Afghan-led and Afghan owned peace process free from external influence. However, things are different on the ground level.
The future Taliban dominated Afghan government is more likely to take India for a ride. If that is the case, then India’s cherished goals which are intricately linked with Afghanistan will be put to severe test.
Hence India is in a dire need to bring the future political leaders of Afghanistan into its confidence. It is obvious that India will leverage its strings of bilateral as well as multilateral diplomacy to keep its interests alive.
