Highlight the programmes launched by the Government of India to promote digitalisation in India’s urban areas with special reference to the recently launched National Urban Digital Mission.
1. India Urban Data Exchange (IUDX):
Developed in partnership between the Smart Cities Mission and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru to address the problem of data silos, both within and across cities.
2. Smart Code Platform:
Enables all ecosystem stakeholders to contribute to a repository of open-source code for various solutions and applications for urban governance.
3. Smart Cities Mission 2.0:
Its website has been redesigned to serve as a single stop for all Smart Cities initiatives. o GMIS is integrated with this website. The website creates a single window hub for Smart Cities Mission.
4. National Urban Digital Mission:
NUDM aims to build the shared digital infrastructure for urban India, working across the three pillars of people, process, and platform to provide holistic support to cities and towns.
Objectives of NUDM:
- To catalyse an urban national open digital ecosystem (uNODE) that leverages NUDM to build new platforms, solutions and innovations.
- To create open standards and enforce the adoption of open standards by all national digital urban stakeholders.
- To establish registries at appropriate levels to create a single source of truth in respect of urban assets, service delivery, urban data and actors.
- To adopt the best principles of cooperative federalism while working with the States, Union Territories and ULBs for the realization of the vision.
- To provide for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of governance at all levels.
